Fantasy Golf One and Done

The One and Done format is tricky given you have to optimize each player to the best of his abilities – picking a hot hand in a tournament that fits a player’s skills better than most. We’ll do our best all year long to help you choose the right player at the right time.

We’ve looked at all the options and while there are obvious choices like Jordan Spieth and Jason Day, we don’t want to burn those right away, especially at an event where it’s unclear how much each golfer has practiced over the December break. Other good options that we’ll pass on this week are Rickie Fowler, Bubba Watson, Zach Johnson and Dustin Johnson. There are better tournaments for those guys later in the year. That leaves us with three candidates for our one and done this week:

  • Patrick Reed – finished 2015 on a nice run of top 10s; defending champion
  • Jimmy Walker – 2nd here last year but has been fairly average the past several events
  • Graeme McDowell – Graeme finds his way onto the list with a 3rd place finish here in 2011 and a win at the OHL and 3rd at the RSM Classic.

Our choice this week will be Patrick Reed (defending champion) who has been playing well on both the PGA and European Tours the past few months, with nothing worse than a 10th place finish in his last 4 events. This is his 7th best horse for the course ranking and 6th best course fit. Pebble Beach is probably the only other course that fits him so well, and there are other options that week that are more attractive.
