Fantasy Golf One and Done

The One and Done format is tricky given you have to optimize each player to the best of his abilities – picking a hot hand in a tournament that fits a player’s skills better than most. We’ll do our best all year long to help you choose the right player at the right time.

We’ve narrowed it down to six players who are worth consideration for the One and Done this week: Walker, Henley, Kuchar, Thomas, Howell III, and Ryan Palmer. This is Palmer’s 4th best event but not one of his best course fits, plus we’re not sure if we’ll need to go as deep as Ryan Palmer this year in One and Done. He could also be playing better right now. We’ll throw Thomas out for the same reasons – not his best course fit and could be entering with hotter play. Plus, there are plenty of events to use him in later this year once he hits his stride. Kuchar is also out since he hasn’t been in great form recently – though we would say his 12th horse rank and 1st course fit would normally be attractive. Better to wait until he’s back to form. That leaves us with:

  • Jimmy Walker – probably the golfer whose horse ranks and course fit ranks synch the most (impressive). He had a hot streak on Saturday at Kapalua and missed a bunch of short putts on Sunday. 7th best horse rank and 8th best course fit. Playing decently well.
  • Russell Henley – Henley is hot right now and this is his 4th best horse ranking. It’s only his 28th best course fit ranking though which explains some erratic play here.
  • Charles Howell III – This is Charles’ best horse ranking (#4) and 7th best course fit (#54). It’s probably now or never with Howell and he comes in playing quite well. Given his lack of victories, he’s probably a better play in other formats that go deeper.

Our choice this week will be Jimmy Walker though it’s close between our top 3 choices. His track record here and course fit are too hard to overlook. Hopefully he’ll put together some more consistent putting and play than at Kapalua.
